Moonlit Dreams Moonlit Nightmares is a clever and entertaining collection of thirteen short stories with a theme about the moon.
Each narrative is well-written and has an interesting premise. Being a character-driven reader and writer, I particularly enjoyed the more family-oriented stories, with multiple characters and dynamic relationships.
The story lengths vary but Moonlit Dreams Moonlit Nightmares is compiled in such a way that it does not draw attention to this, separating the shorter and longer stories throughout the book to keep a consistent rhythm. To be picky, I would have preferred each story to have a similar length, but this is only because I like to read an entire story in one sitting and, at the beginning of each story, I wasn’t sure how long I would need to set aside. Having said that, the longer stories did not feel like they dragged or carried unnecessary details, nor did the shorter stories feel rushed. Each story took the time it needed to get their narrative across.
Overall, the authors and editor did a fantastic job with this anthology. I would rate Moonlit Dreams Moonlit Nightmares 4/5. It is gripping, well-written, and I enjoyed coming back each night – when the rest of the household was asleep, and the moon was high in the sky – to read more of these mystical short stories.
